· Joseph Cederoth ’08 and Anne Kowalski ‘08 have been named as Commended Students in the National Merit Program, scoring in the top 5% of the more than 1.5 million students who sat for last October’s PSAT examination.
· Michael McCauley ’08 has been recognized as a Semi-Finalist in this year’s National Merit Scholarship Program, scoring in the top one-half of one percent on last year’s PSAT examination.
· Chukwunedum Aniemeka ’08 was named a Semi-Finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship Program for Outstanding Black Students – scoring among the top 1600 of 160,000 students who took last year’s PSAT.
· Sam Wolff ‘08 was named a finalist for the Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship Award. Only thirty high school student-athletes in the Chicago area were selected and were honored at an awards dinner in September at U.S. Cellular Field. PCA-Chicago will award six $1,000 college scholarships to rising high school seniors who best exemplify PCA’s model of the Triple Impact Competitor ®: Personal Mastery, making oneself better; Leadership, making one’s teammates better; Honoring the Game, make the game better.

· Elizabeth Zelko ’08 is a semifinalist in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program. Of the over 1 million students who took the PSAT, approximately 16,000 scored high enough to become semifinalists. These academically talented high school seniors now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $34 million.
· Each year the Social Studies Department Recognizes one junior with the University of Rochester's Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award. This award is given to a student who has a strong academic record in challenging courses, has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to social justice, and has exhibited leadership and dedication to community action. By vote of the social studies department, the Douglass-Anthony Award last spring was given to Ariana Valderrama ’08.
