St. Giles’ Primary, Middle and Junior High programs exist to foster the intellectual, physical, socio-emotional and spiritual growth of our students. We believe that students need to participate in an orderly, creative learning process amidst diversified teaching styles, nurturing the uniqueness of each child. Working individually and in community with others, our graduates develop a sense of personal responsibility toward self, school, parish and global community.
We lay the foundation for our students to be creative and critical thinkers who are capable of sound decision-making and responsible action. We believe that doing this is an integral part of our learning. We strive to make the school a place where children are actively engaged in the learning process. Interdisciplinary units are taught in such a way that through teamwork students utilize problem-solving skills. We believe that students in pursuit of academic excellence must be prepared to meet the challenges of our global society in a rapidly changing world.
St. Giles Constant Pursuit of Academic Excellence
A quality education starts with and excellent curriculum and strategic focus for the school. During our school improvement process, our curriculum was audited and reviewed by the Archdioceses of Chicago Catholic School’s and received the highest ranking—highly commendable—across all 5 criteria categories. The categories evaluated were Mission; Philosophy and Goals; Organization; Curriculum; and Instruction and Assessment.
A core component of our academic excellence and curriculum is our commitment to provide a well-rounded student experience. At St. Giles, our students consistently score well above average in the national, standardized Terra Nova Tests for Math, Science, Reading, Language and Social Studies. But given our focus on a well-rounded student experience, we go well beyond those subjects and support many enrichment opportunities for our students. Our academic program for 1st – 8th grade also includes art, computers, gym, music, library and Spanish.
