The PTO provides many opportunities to get involved in your child’s academic experience
The PTO has many opportunities, large and small, for parents to be involved in their children’s academic experience. St. Giles is a dynamic place because of all of the people who give so willingly of their time and talents. The PTO welcomes anyone who is would like to be involved with open arms and grateful hearts.
Below is the list of volunteer opportunities managed by the PTO along with the Chairs for the committees. Please reach out to the committee chairs of PTO board members for more information or to participate.
Art Awareness
A monthly program where volunteers provide supplemental art instructions in the classroom. Full program guide (explaining various art concepts and related projects) is provided. No art experience necessary. Grades 1-6. During school hours.

Baking
Provide baked goods (homemade or purchased) for various school functions. Flexible hours.

Birthday Book Club
During students’ Birthday month, they are invited to participate in a pizza party during the lunch hour where they select a book that is later donated to the library for a minimum donation. A bookplate sticker is placed inside the book with their name and the student is first to check out the book. Volunteers help bake, purchase paper goods/soda and assist with the party. During school hours.

Buddy Families
Welcome new families to school, accompany them to open house in August and maintain contact throughout the first year to help acclimate them to school. Evening hours.

Catholic Parenting
Committee works to foster participation of students, parent and teachers in the spiritual services and events of the parish. Daytime hours.

Catholic Schools Week
A special week in January/February set aside to celebrate Catholic Schools nationwide. Over 20 activities take place during this special event for families, students and teachers. Volunteers are need to help with event promotion, publicity, decorations, family events, teacher baskets, buddy lunches, teacher lunches and community outreach. Need approximately 120 volunteers for the week. Day, evening and weekend hours.

Assist the Development Office staff with preparing mailings. Flexible hours.

Faith and Family Life Committee

Family Events
Organize two social events for school families—one in the spring and another in the fall.

Great Books
Lead a reading program in the classroom using a story guide to promote the joy of reading. Volunteers will lead small discussion groups with the class and assist with a writing or drawing activity.

Halloween Party
Coordinate a parish-wide party. Volunteers will help with publicity, refreshments, activities, and decorations and clean up. Evening hours.

Helping Hands
Provide an organized response to school families in need. Volunteers prepare meals and help with carpooling. Flexible hours.

Hospitality—Monthly Faculty Meetings
Provide refreshments once a month for after school teacher meetings. Volunteers purchase cups and napkins, set-up and provide bake goods. Flexible hours.

Hospitality—Open House
Provide refreshments for curriculum night (first week in September) and two Open Houses during Catholic Schools week. Day and evening hours.

Hospitality—Teachers Lunches
Provide refreshments for Teacher Orientation and Institute luncheon in August and again during Catholic Schools Week. Coordinate soup dinner during conference week in February. Volunteers will provide invitations, set-up food preparation, serving and clean up. Day and evening hours.

Hot Lunch
Organize special student lunches to be delivered from local restaurants twice a month. Volunteers help select meals, distribute, collect and tally order forms, count money, purchase food and organize volunteers. On days when Hot Lunch is served volunteers will meet in the Primary Building Lobby at 11:00 am to organize distribution.

Laminating
Assist office by laminating various items. Hours are flexible.

Market Basket/Wellness
Work with the faculty and administration to provide supplemental information and instruction on school wellness guidelines. Flexible, evening hours. Coordinate fresh product program offered to our school, parish and community. Daytime hours.

Room Parent
Two room parents per classroom are assigned to coordinate parent volunteers for classroom parties (Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day), end-of-year picnic and sacrament receptions (if applicable). We also ask that room parents help photograph key classroom activities and projects to submit to the development office. During school hours.

School Supply Pack
Coordinate orders; distribute boxes to classrooms and inventory supplies. Daytime hours.

Spirit Wear
Coordinate spirit wear sales during the school year including order intake and delivery of merchandise. Flexible hours.

Talent Show
Assist the Student Council in auditions, rehearsals and production of the school talent in April/May. During school hours.

Uniform Exchange
Collect and sort uniforms. Hold sale in July/August. Flexible hours.

Wrapping Paper Sales
Coordinate wrapping paper fundraiser in the Fall including working with the sales representatives, collecting order forms and distributing items once delivered. Flexible hours.
