Kindergarten Music The current focus is on action songs in a narrow range which encourage
singing through playful responses.
1st Grade Music The student will be exposed to the basics of music through age-appropriate
songs and games.
2nd Grade Music Students continue to learn through rote/modeling and use hand symbols to attempt
mastery of ascending and descending intervals.
3rd Grade Music Will begin study of the soprano recorder..They will need their book and instrument for each class.
4th Grade Music Will further study of recorder,expanding range and technique. Will begin to sing two part rounds.
Will need instrument and book for each class.
5th Grade Music Will begin classroom use of The Five Minute Theory Book. Will continue study of the elements of
musio through textbook sources and tercordings.
6th Grade Music Will use a spiral notebook to take brief notes. Will focus class activity through National and Archdiocesan Standards
7th Grade Music Will be given guided listening to further understanding of the concepts of music. Will continue
use of Get America Singing Again Volumes 1 and 2. Will need single subject spiral notebook.
8th Grade Music use of a singing rubric to monitor progress and range. Guided listening will expand student exposure to varied styles and forms. Will need single spiral notebook.
