Welcome to Third Grade!

Ralph Houses and persuasive letter due on Tuesday, May 1

Students worked on a first draft of their persuasive letter at school.  They should have a copy of that first draft so that they can finish the final draft at home.

Students should not have to buy anything to make the Ralph Houses!  They should use materials they already have available at home.  Students should be the primary builder of the home.

A copy of the explanatory letter sent home is under Homework.

Thank you so much to our Museum of Science and Industry parent chaperones.  We appreciate the time and effort you volunteered to assist us!  We had a lot of

fun at the Mythbusters exhibit.  I was particularly proud when, during a presentation, the audience was asked questions about the scientific method and it was our St. Giles 3rd graders who answered!  Good job guys!

This week the students researched the planets of our solar system, and started working on creating an informational science poster that a teacher could use in their classroom.  They are looking good!

We are currently hosting 21(!) catepillars, all in various stages.  When will we see butterflies emerge?  Check back here next week and find out if they've completed their metamorphosis

At the end of this week, students had a test on their 6-10 division facts.  We are also taking daily multiplication timed tests.  Next week we will begin our unit on fractions.

We've begun a new novel in reading, The Shoeshine Girl by Clyde Robert Bulla.  The main character of the book is a little girl named Sarah Ida who has a lot to learn about personal responsibility, respecting others, and the value of work.  The students think the story is pretty dramatic so far!
