Dear Families,
Every year the staff and I collaborate on value building programs for every classroom to create a peacable school. When I am able to visit and present in classrooms the students get to know the school counselor and feel comfortable visiting me. This year I will be visiting classrooms during each trimester.
I have outlined some of my responsibilities so you will know what a counselor can do in a school setting.
- Classroom interventions: work with a classroom teacher and develop programs such as peer friendships, focusing in the classroom, and organizational skills.
-Consultant: work with teachers, parents, and administration by providing plans regarding soial/emotional/behavioral issues.
-Crisis intervention: bereavement, harming others, or self-injury
-Individual and group counseling: meet with students to find new methods for dealing with peer friendships, anxiety, divorce, death, organization, stress, following the classroom routine.
