Curriculum for the Week of 2/21
Reading: This week we are doing a pioneer unit which goes along with the story we read two weeks ago. We will be reading a story called Cassie's Journal which follows a pioneer girl and her family on their journey to California. Also the students will be doing an in class project with various aspects of the pioneer life. Students will also be working on pioneer vocabulary in class.
We are reading all about the Pumpkin Life Cycle. We will be working on various skills such as drawing conclusions, comparing and contrasting, prediction, sequencing, character, setting, and plot.
Your child will take the book home every night to practice the story and there will be a test on Friday.
Spelling: No spelling words this week.
Students are able to have challenge words based on how they do on the pretest on Monday. If you are looking for extra practice for spelling words please visit www.spellingcity.com.
Grammar : We will be reviewing adjectives this week. There will be homework this week.
Writing: We will continue to work on organizing ideas in writing.
Handwriting: We will continue cursive writing.
Phonics: We will be working on contractions.
Math: We will continue to work on Geometry this week. Please be sure your child completes the homework.
If your child does well on the pretest I give before every chapter, then their math is modified to meet their needs. Please practice addition and subtraction facts with your child as much as you can.
Religion: We will be working on the Mass and begin to discuss the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We will also be talking about Ash Wednesday and Lent. Please be working on the Eucharist books at home.
Science: We will continue our weather unit this week.
