We will begin our second new novel this week-The Mouse and the Motorcycle-.This will be a new literature experience for the students-increased challenging vocabulary words[notebook for this purpose and will be tested on them]The quizzes and tests will be short essay responses along with their homework on high level comprehension skills.There will be activities for them to complete in class and at home.
We will be discussing chapters two and three this week.we will be comparing reality vs.fantasy and answering comprehension questions on these chapters.
ENGLISH.
We will be working on our writing skills and reviewing grammar usage.
MATH
RECHECKING is extremely important on homework,quizzes,tests,and classwork.We daily go over the steps in rechecking-it is a gradual learning process for it requires them to slow down which can be challenging for all of us.They are making progress in this area..
STUDY MULTIPLICATION FACTS daily.We have studied ALL THE MULTIPLICATION FACTS [0-12] AND EVERY WEEK UNTIL JUNE THERE WILL BE A WEEKLY TEST ON THESE FACTS .
Simple Solutions this week-LESSONS 89-92..We will be studying .solids,area,and estimation of area.Our interactive smartboard lessons have helped tremendously in mastering these geometric concepts.
SOCIAL STUDIES
The students will receive a brand new textbook this year .I teach both third grades in Social Studies on Monday,Wednesday,and Thursday..Their red folder should still have their outlines and graded assignments to be used for study purposes for quizzes and tests.The students will be working on Chapter 6 in their textbook.We will focus briefly on Native Americans because in March we will be doing an 8 week inquiry based unit on Native Americans as outlined by the Archdiocese.THEY ARE WELCOMED TO TAKE HOME THEIR TEXTBOOKS HOME ANY TIME OF THE WEEK.THEY DO NOT NEED PERMISSION TO DO SO..
We will have our test this week on the lessons dealing with inventions,technology,suffrage,equal rights,and those people who contributed to these advances in our American Society.Then,we will begin our new unit on ECONOMICS-UNIT 6.It deals with taxes,producers,consumers,finances,recession,Wall Street,savings and checking accounts,investments,unemployment and more.This week we will focus on banking-savings and checking accounts,deposits,interest rates,investing if all goes well since we only have two days instead of three days for Social Studies.
SCIENCE
Ms.Rivera teaches both third grade Science classes on Monday,Tuesday,and Wednesday.Please contact Ms.Rivera regarding any questions related to Science.
