George E. Tapling III Memorial Scholarship Fund was recently established by some of his St. Giles & Fenwick classmates to honor George after he passed away in May 2016 after a heroic battle with cancer. This scholarship will help a Class of 2018 student to attend Fenwick High School with this amazing 4 year scholarship. George was born in Oak Park and graduated from St. Giles in 1969, Fenwick in 1973 and St. Norbert College in 1977. George is remembered as a man who loved his family and friends deeply. His lifelong and close relationships extended back to his days at St. Giles and Fenwick. This scholarship was awarded to Peter Forde ’18.
The Class of 2014 will head off to college this Fall. Here are some of their impressive selections – we are very proud of all of them and wish them well in their new endeavor.

Dan Bransfield ’86 – an author!
Check out his latest book – “Pizzapedia: An Illustrated Guide to Everyone’s Favorite Food”. Lighthearted yet well researched, this illustrated pizza Baedeker hits the right buttons. After a rundown on the history dating to the Roman era, it highlights pizza’s Neapolitan roots, Margherita of Savoy and the classic pizza named for her, and Lombardi’s in New York in 1905. It shows slices from today’s New York spots, including Di Fara, Emmy Squared and Patsy’s, and signature pizzas from several cities, including Chicago and Detroit.
Robert (Bob) Quane ’82
Bob was the convocation speaker at the 2018 University of Illinois Mathematics and Statistics Convocation. Bob has had an amazing career. Connor Hartweg ’14 led a walkout of OPRF students in support of gun control. He is a real leader, blaring on the bullhorn to over 300 students, “America is one of the only countries i the world with school shootings. Is that fair to us? Is that fair to us?” Connor was also interviewed on NPR radio – way to go Connor!
After a 38 year career, Tom Brady ’61 retired as Vice-President from the CBOE this Spring. Tom joined his grandchildren for our 2017 Grand People Day at St. Giles with Ellie ’23, Michael “22 and Erin. He is keeping busy on the golf course and playing with his 7 grandchildren. Enjoy!
