6TH Grade Shout Out: March 11-16th
- Report Card envelopes should return signed this week!
- Library Tuesday!
- Reading Novel quiz on Tuesday
- Vocabulary Quiz on Tuesday
LA: This week we will begin our first lesson on the different types of adjectives and what different types of information they can tell us about a noun in a sentence. We will continue with citation practice in preparation for our next essay. We will also have another Aspire writing practice this Friday! These will help us practice the writing strategies we have been practicing all year and relieve some of that test day anxiety! We talked last week about the expectations of the Aspire writing, and what we found was that the expectations for Aspire are exactly the same as the expectations we have for ourselves in 6th grade writing every day! We know we can do it because we already have!
Reading: We will continue working our way through our novel. On Wednesday, we will have a quiz that will serve as a check in to make sure we are following along with the reading assignments and understanding the novel so far. There will be a notebook check the same day while you take your quiz. Friday is our usual vocabulary quiz. I am glad that we are going to have those 2 assessments this week because I think this will really help us in 6th grade understand how the effort we put into learning the vocabulary from our unit is just as important, and as easy, and learning vocabulary from the novels we read.
SS: This week, you will have 2 more days to practice with your group. On Thursday and Friday, we will have presentations. Some things to keep in mind:
- You must print your own script for your performance day.
- Some groups still have not signed up. Make sure you do.
- If you have recorded your performance, make sure you send it to me ASAP to have it ready to show in class on your performance day.
Let’s have a great week!
6th Grade Shout Out! End of February / Trimester 2
Reminders for this week!
- Trimester ends March 2nd
- Report Cards to be sent home the following week.
- Library on Tuesday
LA: This week we will be discussing subject verb agreement! This will be the last lesson before our chapter test next week Tuesday. This chapter on verbs was LONG, so there will be a helpful study guide!
We will also be going to the lab on Wednesday during reading to type up the final drafts of our persuasive essays! We will be reviewing the finer points of MLA formatting when typing an essay!
Reading: We will continue going through our novel and paying close attention to the relationships the characters have with one another and with their environment. Pay close attention to the key events, main ideas, and summaries in your notes!
We will also be paying attention to the idea that, during a time of crisis, people sometimes have to go without their everyday comforts, particularly with food. Just like Annemarie can’t have any of the rationed items, we will understand more of what it’s like for our characters and reflect on the fortune it is to have as much as we do!
The vocabulary quiz for our review chapter will be on Friday! The best practice is to practice writing the words in sentences that show your understanding of the word with context clues.
SS: We will review the story of Masada, and we will jump straight into lesson 2. There will be review questions for lesson 1 assigned tomorrow or Tuesday, so that is a great way to sow your knowledge of the lesson in detailed sentences.
Let’s have a great week!
6TH Grade Shout Out! President’s Day Weekend
This week in…
LA: We are going to do some review of past, present, and future tense verbs, focusing more on irregular spellings! No writing quiz on Wednesday, BUT the Type 3 Draft of your 3rd body paragraph is due in class on Wednesday!
Here are the FCA’S (WRITING GOALS) in case you forgot!
- Highlight topic sentence that states reason (main idea)
- * next to 5 examples used to support the reason
- Highlight concluding sentence
We hope to end the week working more on our concluding paragraph!
Reading: We will FINALLY start our next novel, Number the Stars. We will focus on getting to know our characters and how the German invasion of Denmark in 1940, which we reviewed last week, is impacting their lives.
We also are going to do a review unit for vocabulary. The quizlet with our review words is already shared in our classroom! We will be using them in writing, and we will be practicing denotation and connotation with these words, as well as with other words we have studied!
In Social Studies, we will begin chapter 7! We are still talking about the ancient Hebrews, but now we are focusing on their lives in captivity. It’s great that we are beginning our novel in reading at this time because both our novel and our SS textbook are focusing on the history of this amazing group of people! We will learn about their special traditions and how hard it was for the ancient Jews to keep their traditions alive while undergoing so much hardship!
This is going to be a great week! Enjoy your day off!
