About Kiley Yena

I am Kiley Yena and I teach First Grade here at St. Giles. I have been married 8 years to a fellow teach and am expecting my third child this fall. I have taught for 12 years now and this will be my second year here at St. Giles. I myself am a proud product of Catholic education and I understand the values and morals that go along with having such a wonderful educational foundation.

Valentine’s Day

We will have a brief classroom celebration Thursday afternoon for those interested in exchanging Valentine’s gifts/cards. Participation is completely optional, however, I encourage students to practice proper manners and protocol should they choose to participate. I have seen the holiday handled many different ways in my experience, but trust that this group will treat the day with proper and polite perspective.

1/30-1/31 Weather Days Enrichment Work

Due to the hazardous weather conditions, it has been announced by administration that we will not be having school or activities Wednesday and Thursday of this week. While I had began to scale the week’s workload somewhat in anticipation, we still wanted time together as paced, productive, and positive as possible. (more…)

About the Teacher - Kiley Yena

Congrats to Mrs. Yena on her new son! She is currently on maternity leave and will return to St. Giles later this year.

Long-Term Substitute:
Seth Birgells (Mr. B.)

Dearest First Grade Families,

With great pleasure and anticipation, please allow me to introduce myself as the long-term substitute teacher for Ms. Yena’s class effective October 15. As the father of two daughters currently enrolled in Catholic elementary schools, I value the merits of the learning environment in which I have been so blessed to be welcomed at St. Giles.

With nearly a decade of working with learners ranging from primary through intermediate, middle school, high school coaching, and even junior college-level Adult ESL education, I bring a seasoned and diverse wealth of experience to our learning community.

Classroom management is characterized by high expectations, but in a contagiously nurturing environment. In terms of communication, I am a strong proponent of proactive interaction with students and families. Rather than address issues in hindsight, I advocate anticipation and preparedness in everything we do. Life hands us enough surprises. Learning provides its own challenges.

I look forward to this opportunity in learning together with our young scholars, just as I relish constructing fruitful relationships with you, our families, in the coming months. There is not a moment I take my vocation for granted and rejoice in the providence to share my craft and our experiences with you, right here, at St. Giles.
