KINDERGARTEN CURRICULUM Week of Monday December 10th-Friday, December 14th
In Religion: The Kindergarteners will continue learning about ADVENT, and we will place the 2nd candle on our Advent Wreaths. The 2nd candle represents “PEACE”. Please continue to work on the ADVENT calendar that I sent home- “Daily Acts of Kindness”. This calendar will help your Kindergartener prepare for Jesus’ Birth.
FLUENCY GOALS: Throughout the month of December, we will work on “Letter, Sound-Fluency”! On Monday, I will send home a “Jolly Phonics” letter/sound graphic organizer. I have taught the Kindergarteners how to make the sounds/movements for all letter sounds, and some consonant diagraphs. This will be the only homework that I will send home for the rest of December. Please go over them daily. Use the “You Tube” link below, and HAVE FUN!
In Phonics: CVC Review (in class).
In Reading: Sight Word Review (Home and School).
In Handwriting: Handwriting Review Uppercase/Lowercase letters (Home and School). Please have your Kindergarteners practice tracing letters and numbers in your handwriting binders. The numerals that we have been working on are as follows: (0. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,7, 8 and our numeral of the week is “10”). This will be the last number. Now that the Kindergarteners know the correct formation of all the numbers, they will start writing numbers as high as they can in Kindergarten.
In Creative Writing, The Kindergarteners will continue to write a sentence a day using capital letters at the beginning of a sentence, and a period at the end of a sentence. Kindergarteners are also learning that Uppercase “I” is always capital-whenever talking about ourselves-in a sentence.
In Math, We will begin counting objects and writing numbers O-20.Calendar skills that we are learning are days of the week, months of the year, counting on to our 100th day, count recognition/trading, weather graphing, Seasonal changes, and place value! We will also complete some “Portfolio” Assessments and “I Ready” Assessments.
In Science: The Kindergartners will learn about different types of Weather and the vocabulary that goes along with that weather. We will learn about seasonal changes as we transition from Fall to Winter. A new vocabulary word this week is “Blustery”!
In Social Studies: We will learn about the History of the first Christmas, and Jesus’ birth. The Kindergarteners will make a Diorama of the setting and “real/life” characters in the Bible.
In Social/Emotional: The Kindergarteners will be practicing strategies that they can use when they feel unfocused. As the weather changes (and we are stuck inside), we will be working on “cool” down activities, Yoga, and more Brain Gym breaks.

About the Teacher – Sandra Tomeczko
I have been teaching Kindergarten for 28 years, and living my childhood career dream. “All I ever wanted to learn, I learned in kindergarten is true”! And now I’m sharing it every day with my students at St. Giles!
At St. Giles, I have found a faith filled environment, and a “School Family”. The teachers are caring and dedicated individuals who deliver a quality education which also strengthens the students’ spiritual values first acquired in their own home. St. Giles makes that “School & Family” connection! We all work together to build peace, respect for each other, the environment, and the community. I am proud to be a part of a school that leads by attitude, example, and service.
