WELCOME HOME TO MY THIRD GRADE-2018- March 19- March 23
March 19-HAPPY ST. JOSEPH’S DAY!
The students received a special letter on their making a homemade mouse house which is due March 22ND-THIS THURSDAY IN MY CLASSROOM. All primary grades will be viewing them all morning.
Please return report card envelopes to the teacher since we will be using them again. Thank you.
All parents in third grade are invited to create an account on Power School to view their child’s grades. Science grades are viewed on Mrs.DeAlba’s site.Also,if a student’grade is left blank,it is because the student has make-up work or has to redo the assignment or test.
THE STUDENTS WILL TAKE HOME THEIR MATH CLASSWORK SHEETS TO HELP THEM ON THEIR HOMEWORK.IT WILL BE IN THEIR MATH FOLDERS. ALSO THEIR WRITTEN WORK.
All unexcused late homework will be one point off the 5 point scale when handed in the next day.It will begin this week for all of my classes.Please make sure students have completed all homework and have them in their folders.Please check their homework and assist as needed especially our new Math Common Core Homework. They will need assistance.Quizzes are given on Fridays-study CHECK MY PROGRESS WORKSHEETS IN MATH FOLDERS.The students will be working on written constructed responses to explain their answers,in addition to showing their work.It is a third grade common core standard that all teachers have to teach. This will soon be included in homework.

STUDY ALL MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION FACTS. TEST EVERY FRIDAY ON ALL THE TABLES-1-12
HIGHLIGHTERS ARE NEEDED FOR PROBLEM SOLVING IN MATH AND OTHER SUBJECTS.
Religion- The students will be introduced to Lenten activities in the classroom and at home.They will receive a Lenten Family Calendar which provides ideas for daily Lenten Practices for the child and family. They will be writing their sacrifices on their Petals of Mercy Hearts to be placed in a basket at our prayer shrine. They also will be daily coloring crosses on a handout on the type of sacrifice made on that day. At our prayer shrine, there is a crown of thorns wreath with 6 candles -Sundays of Lent- to daily have a short Lenten prayer service with their intentions. We continue to study the life of Saint Faustina and the Divine Mercy Devotion.
Spelling- There will be Spelling words this week.The students will only receive a regular Spelling list as based on our novel series. this month. The Spelling list the Student receives will be printed in their student planners. The title for the Spelling Words on the website-Spelling City is THE SHOESHINE GIRL. The spelling words for this week are: hero, medal, accident, hospital, customer, ambulance, nurse, polish, apron, medicine, brush, promise, mistake, injury, platform,library, mother, celebrate, crown, queen
English- The students will continue working on their Daily Language D.O.L.’S which will be part of their morning work. We will begin our new unit on Pronouns. They will learn how to use pronouns correctly in sentences. Also, they have created a study guide in their notebook to prepare for their Chapter test on punctuation. The test will be THIS MONDAY.
Reading- The students will continue to study and practice Q.A.R skills to answer questions on short reading stories. We will continue to work on READING TO SELF AND READING WITH PARTNERS WHICH WILL BE PART OF OUR DAILY FIVE. .Please have your child bring sticky notes and highlighters which we will use in reading and other subjects. I will continue teaching the students on how to use their sticky notes,highlighters, and graphic organizer as they read the story. Please use the question QAR handout as your child reads the story with you. It helps improve their comprehension skills. This week the students will receive A NEW GRAPHIC ORGANIZER WHERE THEY MUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN ON THE SHEET as they read the story.The students will begin their novel- THE SHOESHINE GIRL this week. Students will learn sequencing and summaries. They will have to summarize each chapter in the novel.. THESE NOTES IMPROVE COMPREHENSION BY USING THEIR READING AND THINKING VOICES-COMMON CORE SKILL IT HELPS STUDENTS TO ENGAGE IN DISCUSSIONS.It will continue to be modeled in class. The students gave positive feedbacks on the use of this graphic organizer. WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK ON NARRATIVE WRITING AND READING QUIZLETS IN READING. Also, we will be working on character traits. The students will read Chapters 1,2, and 3 this week.
Math- The students will finish their new unit on graphs this week. The test this week will be on tally charts, bar graphs, frequency tables, and identifying halves, fourths on a number line, and pictographs. Please read the math letter for parents in student’s folder for ideas to work on at home,etc.TThere will be a vocabulary test Wednesday and the chapter test will be Wednesday.
Social Studies- I teach both third grades Social Studies classes. Our classes for Social Studies and Science will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The students will begin their study of the jury duties of citizens and citizens rights.
Science- Mrs.DeAlba teaches both third grade Science classes. All concerns and questions concerning Science are to be discussed with her.View More
