STEAM is Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math
This concept is not new to the children. Many times a day these disciplines are interwoven through out our studies and even our playtime indoor and outdoors.
This week our studies will focus on Curious George through STEAM
Active learning begins with curiosity! This is a way to help Kindergartners understand concepts, such as measuring, building, and simple machines. Lesson plans with Curious George videos launch investigations and learning opportunities that will inspire Kindergartners to explore the world around them. As children ask questions, predict outcomes, share observations, and formulate theories, they establish the science skills and “habits of mind” that lead to academic success and lifelong learning. “
As a whole school we will be actively engaged in a STEAM Activity on Friday from 2 till 3 in which we will discover Patterns of a Rainbows.
Phonological Awareness refers to an understanding of the sound structure of language-that is, that the language is made up words, syllables, rhymes, and sounds (phonemes). This knowledge occurs initially in oral language; students do not have to know how to name their letters or their corresponding sounds in order to demonstrate phonological awareness.
Faith Focus: God tells us in the Bible that He loves us. The children will learn good listening skills and realize that they have a story and learn how to share it. They will learn that the Bible is read at Mass.
Make predictions based on cover, title, and pictures. Retell information from a story. Respond to a simple question about the reading. Phonics review /Cc/, and short O sound. Introduce /Gg/ sound.
