The Sister Marie Imelda Wilson O.P Giving Society
Do you know who created the AMAZING Kindergarten Room 100 in the Corrigan Building? It was Sister Marie Imelda Wilson who came to St. Giles in 1937 and taught generations of students here for 40 years. Sister Marie Imelda was a visionary in early childhood education. She implemented a Montessori approach to teaching kindergarten and designed the St. Giles classroom to meet the learning needs of the young child. She was a dedicated teacher at St. Giles and a well-known kindergarten educator throughout public and parochial school systems in the U.S.
Sr. Marie Imelda retired from St. Giles in 1976 and died at the age of 85 on September 8, 1991. This Giving Society has been named in her honor.
This Giving Society honors Sister Marie Imelda’s passion and devotion to St. Giles students, while also recognizing our major donors, who demonstrate the same commitment through their support of our school. Donors who contribute more than $1,000 annually to St. Giles through our annual fund, or the Margaret Stewart Tuition Assistance Fund, have been honored as members of the Sister Marie Imelda Wilson Society. This new initiative has generated more than $200,000 since 2010. A commemorative plaque of our charter Society members hangs outside of our beautiful Kindergarten classroom – K100.
This year we are trying out an expansion of this recognition program to also include donors whose contributions to Lions’ Leap, the Paddle Raise at the Lion’s Pride Black & Gold Gala, or other special contributions total $1,000 or more.

The Margaret Stewart Tuition Assistance Fund

St. Giles provides tuition assistance for these families thought this Fund, named for our beloved former librarian and teacher. Assistance ranges from $500-$2,500 for a family who needs some assistance to keep their children in our school.
Mrs. Stewart was one of St. Giles School’s biggest champions and making it possible for families to continue experiencing all good things St. Giles has to offer would be meaningful to her. If you are able to make a donation to this fund, St. Giles and the families receiving assistance would be very grateful.
