This last math concept also includes figuring out whether or not you are missing a part or the whole in order to find the solution.
Important Vocabulary – subtraction number sentence, difference, minus
Science – Water
Last week, we learned that the Earth’s crust is made up of land (mountains, desserts, and plains) and water (oceans, lakes, rivers, and ponds). This week, we learned that oceans contain saltwater while lakes, rivers, and ponds contain freshwater. We are currently conducting an evaporation experiment with freshwater & saltwater.
Social Studies – Rules
We discussed rules this week. Some rules are meant to keep us safe while others help us to learn.
Religion – The Rosary
Our first grade hosted prayer service again this week. Wednesday, October 7, was the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Last week, we learned that the rosary is a set of prayers organized, so to speak, by the Blessed Mother to help us remember the events of Jesus’ life ranging from before he was born to after his death. There are 15 mysteries of the rosary. They are organized into 3 groups; joyous, glorious, and sorrowful. Our class is focusing on the joyous mysteries. This week we presented the 2nd and 3rd Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary at prayer service – The Visitation and The Birth of Jesus. We also learned that each Joyful Mystery has a lesson for us. The Visitation teaches us that we should try to be more like Mary – kind, thoughtful, and considerate. The Birth of Jesus reminds us of how very much Jesus loves us. He came to us as an infant, born to a poor family, and human in every way. We should love with Him all our hearts. We will host prayer service again on Friday, October 23rd and share what we have learned.
