RECAP OF OUR WEEK & A GLIMPSE AT NEXT WEEK
Math – Addition Strategies to 20
We are focusing on different strategies for adding numbers up to 20. So far, these strategies include Counting On, Counting on Using Pennies, Using a Number Line to Add, and Using Doubles to Add.
* While adding numbers may require little effort for some students, we are also working on being able to explain (verbally and in written form) how we process mathematical information and go about arriving at solutions; and, of course, we’re working on fluency (being able to answer basic addition facts quickly and correctly.) Fluency is important because recalling basic math facts easily frees up mental resources for the more complex problem-solving your child will be required to do in the future.
Next Week – More addition strategies to 20 (Doubles Plus/Minus1, Problem-Solving Strategies including Acting It Out, Ten Frames, Using Related Addition Facts, and Adding 23 Numbers by Looking for Doubles or Making a Ten).
Science – We are wrapping up our focus on the sun as a source of light. Look for a small project that will be sent home this week. This project has helped demonstrate 2 things – that light travels nd how objects in the path of the sunlight seem to move/change.
