Reading/ELA/Phonics – The students will be learning about expository text, rereading to find details, capitalization of proper nouns, special places, compound words, and linking verbs of is, are, am, was, were, and words with silent letters (wr, kn, gn, mb, sc).
Spelling – There will be a spelling pre-test and a spelling test on Friday. There will be two word lists.
High Frequency Words – many, morning, through, sleep, very, eat, colors, down, below, dark
Math – The students will learn to subtract with zeros across and take their Chapter 7 test over subtracting three-digit numbers on Wednesday. A study guide will go home with students on Tuesday to prepare for the test. The students will start Chapter 8 learning the concepts of money, counting coins, pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.
Religion – The students will be learning about how their choices can affect themselves and others. They will also be learning about Ten Commandments and participating in Valentine’s Day learning activities. Our class will be hosting prayer service on Friday. We will be learning about personal space and being respectful of another person’s boundaries in our Olweus Lesson this week.
Science – The students will be learning about how matter can change in many ways.
Social Studies – The students should be working on their Living Wax Museum posters at home. Please do not bring the posters in before Thursday, 2/20. Their final draft of their written reports should be turned in by Tuesday, 2/18. Please make a copy as you can use it on the poster.
Friday 2/14 is the Valentine’s Day classroom party 2:15 – 3:00. Students can bring Valentines for their classmates. We have 17 students in our class. They can label their Valentines for all classmates, or they can bring them without names. It is their choice. I will send a list of names home with students this week.
