Hello St. Giles!
With Holy Week upon us, I was able to find a video and activities to share with you and your family.
First, Holy Thursday’s focus on cleansing is a reason that families often use to thoroughly clean their homes right before Easter. For an activity, pick some area of your home, say the basement, for your family to clean together during Holy Week to be fresh and ready for Easter.
Second, may I suggest going on this website to find activities on the Stations of the Cross? Devote some time during Holy Week to help teach your child about Jesus’s passion, death, and resurrection.
Third, pretzels are a very traditional food for Lent and are shaped in arms in prayer. Try making soft pretzels with your children. Catholicicing.com has all sorts of different Lenten food recipes on display. I even saw a recipe for Palm Sunday where you can make a hearts of palm dip to accompany those tasty pretzels.
Or, if you have a sweet tooth, how about making hot cross buns with your family. Find ways to have everyone join in on making them, even if its just by adding in some ingredients, like raisins, to the batter or helping to add the white icing crosses.
Last, on Good Friday, spend time with your family in prayer or reflection between the hours of 12:00 and 3:00. Consider making it a time with no T.V. or internet. Simply do a Holy Week prayers search on Google or explore Catholicbrain.com, and prayers and reflections will be right at your fingertips.
Prayers and Blessings,
