Elementary Students (K – 4)
Elementary students enjoyed the Halloween Unit during the October months. We played games such as Ghost in the Graveyard which focused on our throwing and catching skills. Silly tag games such as Witch’s Candy, Trick or Treat, and I’m a Little Ghost Tag. The K – 3 students finished up the unit with a Glow Party. The lights were turned off in the gym and students rotated through different Halloween themed stations working on different skills – scooter through the spooooooooky cave, bowl the pumpkin ball at the ghosts, bounce the eyeball into the bucket, and bop the hanging ghost.
Grades 5 & 6 spent time in the Handball/Hand Hockey unit. Focus was on both team work and hand eye coordination. Teams are often changed up to allow for different leadership styles to emerge and ensure a balance of team play. I enjoyed watching the students develop their strategy during these games as well as watching them settle disputes peer to peer in a Christian manner.
Junior High Students
Football was introduced to 7th Grade students and focused on the basic elements of the game such as basic plays, positions, and simple rules to advance the ball. 8th grade moved forward from last year in the unit and started developing some more difficult plays and striving for more complete passes.
Students in Grades 1 – 5 have continued to build on their Running Challenge. Our school goal is to run for 5 minutes without stopping. We are currently at 3:00 minutes and it shows in the students stamina and their ability to maintain a tempo pace during class.
