This week, 2nd grade is learning how to “make a ten” to add. This strategy is meant to help the students down the line when they have harder problems, so that they can recognize grouping numbers more quickly.
While “make a ten” is a great strategy, students at this point in 2nd grade often have a hard time grasping the concepts of breaking down numbers and keeping track of what they’re adding.
