We finished up chapter 2 (subtraction) in math this week. After reviewing for a couple of days, we took the Chapter 2 test.
Next Week – Addition Strategies to 20
Our spelling words this week contained long a. We know that when there is a silent e at the end of a word, it makes the a say it’s own name. A vowel that says its own name, is a long vowel. We also learned about soft c and g that sometimes sounds like j. When c is followed by e, i, or y it makes the s sound. When g is followed by e or i, it makes the sound of j.
Next Week – long i and digraphs wh, ch, tch
Our high frequency words this week were be, could, horse, old, and paper.
Next Week – live, out, people, who, work
Comprehension Strategy – Cause & Effect
Next Week – Author’s Purpose
Science We already know that earth revolves around the sun, making its orbit once every 365 days. This week we talked about the fact that Earth is not standing straight up and down while it does this. It’s actually tilted on its axis. The earth’s tilt on its axis + the orbit it makes around the sun = the yearly pattern that we call seasons. Students worked on a activity to demonstrate how the tilt of the earth as it spins on its axis while orbiting the sun causes different seasons.
We’ve been focusing on praise this week in religion. We know that prayer is talking and listening to God. We learned that there are different types of prayer. Praise is prayer that celebrates God’s goodness while a prayer that asks for God’s loving care is called a blessing.
Next Week: God is our loving Father. He created all things to show his love for us.
