A Recap of Our Week & A Glimpse Into Next Week
Students worked on subtracting tens and relating addition & subtraction of tens in math. This brought us to the end of chapter 6.
We will review chapter 6 and then take the chapter test. Chapter 7 is all about organizing information and using graphs. We’ll learn about tally charts first. Important vocabulary: tally chart, survey
Spelling lists contained words with the long e sound created by the ea vowel team. We also learned about dropping the y and changing it to i before adding inflected endings to base words. (For example, study -> studying, studied).
We discussed theme (the “big idea” of the story or the author’s message) to help us with reading comprehension. Identifying the theme of a story can be challenging since it is a higher order skill and requires students to make an inference.
We also learned that adjectives (grammar) can be used to describe the color and/or shape of a noun. (For example, red bike or rectangular paper.)
Since Wednesday & Thursday are half-days and there is no school on Friday, there will be no new spelling list this week. We’ll resume with Week 3 of Unit 4 in our reading program the week of March 20th.
During religion we continued to focus on Lent, particularly the concept of New Life & Lent.
We will continue focusing on the season of Lent.
We began conducting a few simple science experiments to help us learn more about sound waves.
Next, we will continue learning more about sound waves.
