About the Band Program Expand

At St. Giles School we are very proud of our Band Program.

More than one hundred 4th through 8th graders participate in Band every year. Band truly provides one of the special extras of a St. Giles education. Students participate in a curriculum of full rehearsals, sectionals and private lessons taught by professional musicians. The band performs in several concerts, festivals and assemblies each year. Band is a fee-based program.

In the Spring, interested third graders are introduced to various instruments, choose one to play, and often sign up for summer lessons. Students new to the band join the Beginning Band and progress to Concert Band after one year. From the Concert Band, students then progress to the Wind Ensemble. The Wind Ensemble performs a wide variety of music including classical, jazz and popular selections.

In addition, students who have an interest in performing more jazz and rock style music can join Jazz Band I and graduate to Jazz Band II.

Mr. Bob Gloppen conducts the Beginning, Concert, and Wind Ensemble Bands. Mr. Mike Knauf conducts the Jazz bands. Both can be reached through St. Giles School 708-383-6279.
